Depression is not a choice. No one willingly choose to be depressed. There can be many reasons for it: lack of serotonin, after-effects of a trauma, or accumulation of suppressed emotions pertaining to some misery or misfortune. And mind you, it’s not a “phase” and no one can just “snap out of it”, and it doesn’t necessarily happens after some failure. If you’d do some research you will find many successful personalities have battled this disease.

It is just another illness. It is like asking ‘What’s the point of having diabetes when life is so short?’ Doesn’t make any sense, right?

So first understand this illness. This perhaps was a well-intended question but even then do not say this words to someone dealing with depression.
